Hey guys... I really don't have any new news to report.... We are trying to figure out what to do for Gabby's birthday, as it will be here in only a few weeks.... We want to have a small party and invite close friends and family..... But the house is not really big enough, and we are on a budget... We thought about Chuck-E-Cheeses, but Gabby would not really have any fun there..... Any suggestions?

hey gwen! wow a year already! that insane! well i can tell ya that for emilee's first we had a small house too so i just got us all to go out to dinner at b.P's that way everyone paid for there onw meal. and besides i had no friends with kids em's age at the time... and she didnt know the differnce anyhoo. good luck!
For Mya's first birthday we kept it pretty simple - esp. since she wouldn't really care what was going on -it was more for us than her. Mostly I wanted to have some fun memories for us (and her) to look back on one day. We too kept it on a budget.
1. I made the cake. It was a princess castle. You can find lots of cake ideas online that give pictures and directions. This one was easy.
2. I bought a large picture mat (Walmart $4.00) and had everyone write a birthday message and/or sign it. It was white, and we used lots of different colored sharpie markers. I then used a picture from her birthday party and framed it. Everyone loved doing it and it turned out really cute. She has everything from messages from her grandparents to scribbled names and little drawings from little kids on it. (It now hang in her room)
3. We made a time capsule for her. I just used a cheap photo box and everyone wrote notes about the year or about memories of her or really whatever they wanted. Kids made her pictures, I wrote her a sappy letter about her first year of life - etc. It's now sealed for her to open when she's a teenager.
4. For decorations I bought lots of balloons from the dollar store and had them fill them- pinks, purples, yellows, ect. Then I let them go to the ceiling, cut the strings, and curled them. It added lots of color and took care of the decorating part for very cheap.
5. We took lots and lots of pictures and added them to her time capsule. I also took my favorite one into Staples (or whatever office store/copy place is handy)and had them copy it onto cardstock the size of postcards. I then used them to send to those who attended the party as her thankyou.(I scribbled a simple "thank you for coming to my party" with my left hand since it was from 'Mya') They were able to print 4 per page and then I had them cut them apart for me- it made it very very cheap. Everyone loved getting them in the mail.
Hope that helps. We spent very little $$ and now have lots of fun memories from her first (sniff) birthday.
P.S. I also made EVERYBODY wear silly party hats ($store)- no matter what age. There is no other party that all the grownups would have done that for. It made for some great, fun, pictures from the afternoon.
Jadon loves to play outside and at playgrounds. So for his 1st and 2nd birthday we took him to the bark and cooked hot dogs and played on the playground and swam in the lake. I would imagine it's probably not watm enough to do that for Gabby's birthday, but what type of physical activity does she really seem to like? You could always do the BK playplace and party there. Chuck-E-Cheese's might be a little too big-kid-ish for her at this point, since most of the activities are gauged towards the older kids. You could have a bunch of her little friends over at your house for a giant play date and cake and ice cream, too. We're trying to figure out what we want to do for AJ, too...we're not sure yet what to do with a non-summer birthday!!! And we don't even have a Chuck-E-Cheese's here!
I wish I could be there to help and make the cake! I'm sure you will have a lot of fun. Take lots of pictures & video. The cake is the best part of the first birthday!
